The start of a new year is always a time for reflection on what you plan to achieve in the year to come. We transitioned into 2017 with a lil party in our new unit in Ancoats. With First Chop’s reggae sound system pumping the tunes and surrounded by our nearest and dearest, it was a special celebration that will live on in the memory.
However now the celebrations are over, is it time to get back to work. We are in the process of completing a second round of investment into the company by selling 15% equity for £100,000.
This is a long way from when we started ShinDigger 4 years ago on a £10k loan from the government Start-up loan Scheme. That was just about enough to get our first batch brewed, branding designed, kegs brought and leave a small amount of cash to operate with. Pump badges were printed out at home, stuck to beer mats and cut out by hand. A proper delivery vehicle was none existent as beers were delivered out of Paul’s battered old hatch back.
Although this was a great lesson for us in being frugal with our money it meant we started from literally square one. Through a lot of hard graft and bumpy roads we’ve grown the company to a point where we are now producing 35,000 pints per month.
Phase One was about bringing to life a solid core product range. And achieve sustainability as a company.
With the £100k investment coming into the company we are moving beyond a start-up and into Phase Two of the company. Our vision for Phase Two is to build an ecosystem around ShinDigger that fulfils our core ethos of enjoying the moment. We will be really pushing boundaries of what a brewing company can be, throwing the traditional brewery model out the window.
The ecosystem is made of 3 branches that will all be interconnected through technology:
1. ShinDigger Brewing Co – the beer and keystone of everything we do
2. ShinDigger Sessions – next event is an all day party in abandoned Antwerp Mansion in April
3. ShinDigger LIVE – one button instant draught beer delivery.
Our roots go back to selling beer at student house parties. The reason we decided to do this at the time was because we still feel that access to quality beer for home drinkers can be massively improved. So with ShinDigger LIVE we’re going to go back to our roots and change this by offering fresh, draught beer to your door, on-demand at the click of a button. We’ll be revealing more on this in the coming weeks!
Last August we launched our events arm ShinDigger Sessions with the idea of playing with the other elements of the drinking experience. We ask ourselves how we can bring together more like minded people and look at the music, aesthetics, food and event format to create the perfect vibe under one roof. This year will be about bigger and better events with the next one lined up at the abandoned Antwerp Mansion in April.
Phase Two will involve more risk and experimentation as we will be investing our new capital into growing these branches. We are ready to embrace the challenges this new chapter will bring as we look to create something awesome that people will love.
